Role Description The Communications Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Seattle, WA, with the flexibility to work from home part of the week. This role develops and executes communication strategies that raise awareness of Harvest Against Hunger’s mission, impact, and programs. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and managing content for the website, email newsletters, social media channels, press releases, and print materials. The Communications Manager will coordinate media relations, support fundraising campaigns and events with compelling storytelling, and ensure consistent branding across all internal and external communications. This person will collaborate with program, development, and leadership staff to gather stories, data, and visuals that highlight partnerships with farmers, truckers, volunteers, and food banks, and will monitor communications metrics to continually refine outreach efforts.
Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling stories for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing digital communication channels, such as websites, email marketing platforms, and social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Proficiency in content planning and basic design or layout tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) for creating engaging visual assets.
  • Ability to develop and implement communication plans that support fundraising, advocacy, and program goals.
  • Comfort gathering stories and information from staff, partners, and community members and representing them respectfully and accurately.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in or demonstrated commitment to nonprofit, food systems, hunger relief, or social justice work is highly beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a small, mission-driven team and to operate independently with sound judgment and accountability.
  • Comfort with a hybrid work environment based in Seattle, WA, including in-person meetings, events, and community engagements as needed.
