The National Association of Veterans' Research and Education Foundations (NAVREF) is seeking a dynamic Partnerships Liaison to accelerate the development and implementation of clinical trials across the VA & NPC research enterprise.

This highly collaborative position serves as a critical bridge between VA's Office of Research and Development (ORD), VA-affiliated nonprofit research corporations (NPCs), industry sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and research investigators. The ideal candidate is an exceptional project manager who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving operational challenges, and is passionate about expanding Veterans' access to innovative clinical research.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Liaison will help identify barriers, streamline study startup, foster collaboration across stakeholders, and advance continuous process improvement throughout the VA clinical research ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Clinical Trial Start-Up Innovation

  • Partner & liaise with VA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) and the Partnered Research Program to support initiatives that improve the efficiency, quality, and consistency of clinical trial start-up and conduct across the VA research enterprise.
  • Represent the interests of VA-affiliated nonprofit corporations (NPCs) in the development of new processes, policies, and operational improvements.
  • Identify barriers and rate-limiting factors affecting study start-up and develop recommendations to improve performance.
  • Track implementation of process improvement initiatives and monitor progress toward study activation milestones.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidance documents, templates, and other operational tools supporting the role of NPCs in clinical research.

Serve as the Primary Clinical Trial Resource

  • Act as NAVREF's primary point of contact for clinical trial referrals.
  • Conduct intake meetings with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, medical device companies, and contract research organizations (CROs) to assess trial opportunities.
  • Disseminate clinical trial opportunities across NAVREF’s network of VA-affiliated nonprofit corporations and research sites.
  • Educate sponsors and external partners on VA research processes, timelines, and best practices for conducting research within the VA system.
  • Provide consultation and ongoing support to NPCs throughout study start-up, advocating on their behalf when appropriate.

Advance NAVREF's Clinical Research Mission

  • Support the activities of NAVREF’s Industry Partner Consortium.
  • Contribute to NAVREF member engagement, educational programming, and consortium initiatives related to clinical trials.
  • Build trusted relationships with VA leadership, industry partners, NPC executives, and research professionals to strengthen collaboration across VA research.
  • Identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities that enhance Veterans' access to innovative clinical research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, life sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience managing clinical research studies, clinical trial start-up, research administration, or healthcare operations.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial regulations and research administration, preferably within academic medical centers, federal research programs, or healthcare systems.
  • Experience working with pharmaceutical sponsors, CROs, research sites, or nonprofit research organizations is highly desirable.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational environments and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for advancing research that improves the lives of Veterans.
