Position Summary
Paws Humane Society is seeking a compassionate, collaborative veterinarian to join our medical team. This position is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys practicing high-quality shelter medicine, values teamwork, and is passionate about improving the lives of animals in our community.
Our veterinarians provide comprehensive medical care to owned and shelter animals while helping advance the organization’s mission through preventative medicine, surgery, disease management, population health, and community outreach.
Whether you’re an experienced shelter veterinarian or a practitioner looking to transition into shelter medicine, we’re committed to helping the right candidate succeed. We provide strong mentorship and support to foster clinical growth, surgical confidence, and a strong foundation in shelter medicine.
Essential Responsibilities
● Perform physical exams, diagnostics, and medical treatment for owned and shelter animals.
● Perform spay/neuter and other routine soft tissue surgeries.
● Promote shelter population health through preventative medicine and infectious disease management.
● Maintain accurate medical records and follow established medical protocols.
● Collaborate with veterinary, animal care, and operations teams to provide excellent patient care.
● Mentor and educate staff, students, and volunteers as needed.
● Participate in community medicine and outreach initiatives.
Qualifications Required:
● DVM or equivalent veterinary degree.
● Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Georgia.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
● Commitment to humane animal welfare.
Preferred:
● Shelter medicine experience.
● High-volume spay/neuter experience.
● USDA accreditation (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements
● Ability to lift and restrain animals safely.
● Ability to stand for extended periods during surgery.
● Ability to work around animals of varying temperaments and medical conditions.
● Ability to perform repetitive surgical procedures while maintaining attention to detail.
