Location: Tome
Valencia County Literacy Council provides literacy services for adults across Valencia County, New Mexico. Our services include basic adult literacy, ESL, digital literacy, and financial literacy tutoring. VCLC’s mission is to support adults to achieve personal goals and very young children to achieve pre-literacy skills through literacy services provided to families free of charge. Valencia County has low literacy rates that create serious barriers to workforce participation.
Strong literacy skills allow individuals to access resources, navigate daily life with confidence, and fully participate in society. We envision a Valencia County in which all residents have the literacy skills they need to achieve their own dreams and to enhance their families and communities’ quality of life.
Member Duties:
The Community Outreach Specialist will help increase the number of VCLC community volunteer tutors and students, coordinate their logistics and training, and provide administrative assistance for student enrollment and participation. By increasing the organization’s capacity for outreach, the Community Outreach Specialist will contribute to VCLC’s mission to alleviate poverty by providing access to free education that provides improved workforce and life skills.
Responsibilities:
Develop an outreach plan for recruiting tutors and reaching students currently not receiving VCLC services.
Coordinate high-quality quarterly tutor training and networking events.
Develop an outreach plan for agencies and organizations in Valencia County involved with literacy services.
Minimum Requirements:
VCLC is looking for a bilingual Spanish speaker, age 18 or older, who is organized, personable, and comfortable with public speaking, and who has at least two years of experience providing services through a non-profit organization.
