The Salt Lake Tribune is seeking two Sales Representatives to help expand its groundbreaking nonprofit news model in communities across Utah. Since its founding in 1871, The Tribune has served as Utah’s independent voice for news and information. In 2019, The Tribune became the first legacy news organization in the United States to become a nonprofit and is now helping lead a movement to build sustainable local news business models. Now, The Tribune is building on prior expansion in Moab by launching new offerings in St. George and Cache Valley.

The Sales Representatives will join The Tribune’s sales team and focus on growing new business in experiential, digital, and regional sales. They will focus on locally-owned businesses and act as a representative for The Tribune with the local business community. These relationships are the foundation of The Tribune’s business model and success here will help strengthen local journalism in Utah.

They will report to the Director of Advertising and work closely with the Senior Account Executive for print and Moab. One role will focus primarily on regional expansion, and can be located in Salt Lake, St. George, or Cache Valley. A minimum of quarterly travel within Utah will be expected of this role. The other role will be based in the Wasatch Front.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, and have a passion for the business of news. We have an opportunity to rethink what advertising means for today’s local media and in doing so ensure The Tribune is set up to serve Utahns for another 150 years. They will be comfortable pitching, writing, and conceptualizing campaigns. They will follow and understand the latest in both digital media trends and advertising trends.

This role will have revenue goals associated with it. Compensation will include a commission plan.

Responsibilities include:

Achieving monthly sales targets;

Maintaining a client list, with a focus on locally-operated businesses;

Overseeing execution of all programs and client relationships with their client list;

Attending local events at a representative of Tribune advertising;

Assisting at Tribune-produced event series;

Weekly pipeline updates and meetings with the Director of Advertising.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have excellent organizational skills demonstrated in meeting deadlines, setting priorities and maintaining accuracy in details. They should be comfortable working in a cooperative but self-directed manner and in a dynamic and evolving industry. They should have a thorough understanding of the work The Tribune does and an interest in, and passion for, media.

Additionally, they should have:

Understanding of digital advertising and media buying (either from a client, agency, or media perspective)

Proficiency with Newspaper Manager, or a comparable database;

Strong writing skills with a focus on marketing and sales communications;

Mastery of Excel, Google applications, and related softwares;

Experience in deck creation;

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent

Be comfortable attending events and public speaking

The is a hybrid position with a central location available of Salt Lake City, St. George, Moab, or Logan. A minimum of quarterly travel within Utah will be required.
