The Scripps Research Institute is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing for a diverse workforce. What You’ll Do
- Supervise and mentor the payroll team
- Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing for salaried, hourly, and stipend-based employees
- Review payroll records, salary changes, deductions, and timekeeping data
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll issues and employee inquiries
- Conduct payroll audits and prepare management reports
- Manage payroll and tax compliance for foreign national employees and non-employees
- Administer Glacier tax software and oversee international tax reporting (1042/1042-S)
- Drive payroll process improvements and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- 3+ years leading or supervising a payroll team
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, UKG, or similar platforms
- Advanced Excel skills
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
- Multi-state payroll experience
- International payroll and foreign national tax experience
- Experience with Glacier tax software
