Position Overview
We are looking for a dependable, hands-on maintenance handy person to work at our historic building and busy event venue. The Livingston Depot Center is seeking someone who enjoys working with their hands and takes pride in keeping a historic facility and its grounds safe, clean, functional, and looking their best.
This part-time position combines event set-up and clean-up with light maintenance, repairs, and fix-it projects. The work is varied and hands-on, from setting up tables and chairs for an event to repairing a door, touching up paint, assembling equipment, or helping with seasonal projects around the Depot and Depot Park.
The ideal candidate is practical, resourceful, dependable, and willing to pitch in wherever needed.
Responsibilities:
Event Support, Set-Up & Clean-Up
- Work closely with the Event Coordinator to support events and ensure the Depot is ready for guests.
- Assist with event preparation and clean-up, including cleaning and custodial duties before, and after events.
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, stages, dance floors, signs, displays, and other event equipment.
- Move, arrange, and store furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and ensure event equipment is clean, functional, and properly stored.
- Prepare indoor and outdoor spaces according to event plans.
- Remove trash, sweep, mop, and return spaces to their normal condition following events.
- Help ensure event spaces are clean, safe, organized, and welcoming.
- Assist event organizers, staff, and volunteers with basic event-related needs.
Light Maintenance & Fix-It Projects
- Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs throughout the Depot and grounds.
- Assist with painting, patching, hanging, assembling, landscaping, and other improvement projects.
- Help maintain furniture, fixtures, signs, doors, displays, and other facility items.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance and general upkeep of Depot Park.
- Identify maintenance issues and report larger problems to staff.
- Take on occasional hands-on “fix-it” projects and other tasks as needed.
General Support
- Work cooperatively with Depot staff, volunteers, vendors, and event organizers.
- Follow safety procedures and use tools and equipment appropriately.
- Keep storage areas, work spaces, and equipment clean and organized.
- Provide friendly, helpful assistance to visitors and event guests when needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Comfortable with physical, hands-on work, including lifting, carrying, bending, standing, and working outdoors.
- Basic experience with hand tools and general maintenance preferred.
- Previous experience with event set-up, maintenance, construction, landscaping, custodial work, or similar work is a plus.
- Able to safely lift and move up to [50] pounds.
- Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining a historic facility.
- Flexible, resourceful, and willing to pitch in wherever needed.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and the public.
Schedule
The schedule is based on the Depot’s event calendar and facility needs. The schedule for the next four months has already been determined and will be provided in advance, allowing the employee to plan around scheduled shifts.
Most hours will be associated with event set-up and clean-up and may include evenings and weekends. Additional hours may be available for maintenance and special projects as needed.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week
