Overview

Part-Time Development Director Jobs in Washington State at Legacy Forest Defense Coalition

Mature and old growth forests in Southwestern Washington and areas surrounding Puget Sound are rapidly disappearing, as the State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) auctions them off to private timber companies. The Legacy Forest Defense Coalition is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to stopping the senseless clearcutting of these last few remaining mature, lowland forests.

We are working to accomplish this goal in several ways:

Conducting field surveys to identify rare and imperiled plant communities

Working with local elected officials and communities to build support for the protection of our publicly owned legacy forests

Working with top attorneys to challenge the legality of DNR timber sales in court

Working with DNR to change the way the agency manages public forest lands

Testifying at Board of Natural Resources meetings

Social media campaign focused on educating the public about individual timber sales

We are looking for a part-time development director with experience in the nonprofit sector to help create and implement a plan to generate funding to support our projects and programs. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help to implement a fundraising strategy for a growing nonprofit organization.

This is currently a part-time, salaried position at 10 hours/week, but has the potential to become a full-time paid position. Work from home/set your own schedule.

Responsibilities may include:

Work with executive director and members of our Board to develop overall fundraising strategy

Manage accounts on Benevity, Guidestar, and other fundraising platforms

Respond to inquiries from individual donors; advise potential donors on payment options; and work to ensure that LFDC is properly enrolled and registered to receive donations from common charitable programs and donor advised funds

Manage relationships with existing donors

Work with the executive director and members of our Board to identify and reach out to potential donors

Identify funding sources such as grants, in-kind donations, charitable events and marketing opportunities

Identify and cultivate relationships with individual and corporate sponsors

Cultivate relationships with foundations

Help draft proposals for competitive grants

Coordinate fundraising events and campaigns to engage the community and promote awareness of our mission

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven experience in fundraising, including relationship management and grant proposal writing.

Strong skills in budgeting and financial oversight related to fundraising activities.

Proficiency in software tools such as Constant Contact, Donorbox, Wix, and Raiser Edge for donor engagement.

Excellent strategic planning abilities with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organization’s mission effectively.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Dedication to forest conservation and a passion for the organization’s mission.

We have an active and motivated network of volunteers, a proven track record, an impressive list of accomplishments; and positive, working relationships with other leading environmental organizations such as the Olympic Forest Coalition, the Sierra Club, and the Washington Forest Law Center.
