Pay Range: $25 – 30 hourly based on experience

Location: Onsite at 10 Hudson, Annapolis, MD. This is not a remote position.

Job Summary

The Light House is seeking a part-time Accounting Assistant for onsite bookkeeping and administrative support in Annapolis, MD, reporting directly to the Director of Finance. Primary responsibilities include managing accounts payable, daily transaction entry, credit card reconciliations, and maintaining organized digital and physical records. Requirements include 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with accounting software (Financial Edge preferred). Candidates should bring exceptional accuracy, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative mindset to our team.

Essential Duties / Key Responsibilities

  • Data Entry & Recording: Input daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and online banking transactions.
  • Accounts Payable (AP): Review, verify, and process incoming vendor invoices according to internal procurement policy, and manage the payment schedule to ensure accurate and timely disbursement.
  • Credit Card Payment Processing: Responsible for ensuring all supporting documents from credit card holders are received and filed, and expenses are properly coded to GL and project codes.
  • Reconciliations: Assist in account reconciliation process by maintaining support documents as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain an organized digital filing system using google drive, as well as being responsible for the physical filing system for receipts, invoices, and historical financial records.
  • Administration: Provide ongoing administrative support to the Director of Finance for day-to-day financial operations as well as quarterly and annual preparation for audits, internal reporting, and other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities

Core Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of standard bookkeeping practices and GAAP principles.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for vendor and internal staff interaction.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel required.
  • Customer Service Oriented – The Finance team at The Light House works closely with program staff, requiring a strong customer service-oriented approach.
  • Collaboration – There are many interdependencies between the finance team members. As we continually seek process improvements, the ability and willingness to collaborate is important.

Education & Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is a strong plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a bookkeeper or in a similar transactional accounting role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Financial Edge or similar accounting software system
  • Experience with Google Workspace a plus
  • Experience with accounting for a nonprofit organization

Flexible part-time schedule between of 18 – 25 hours per week, 3 – 4 days as determined by supervisor

Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
