Role Description The Membership Director is a volunteer, remote role responsible for building, supporting, and engaging the organization’s network of member shelters, rescues, and partner organizations. On a day-to-day basis, this role will identify and recruit prospective members, guide them through onboarding, and maintain regular communication to ensure strong relationships and satisfaction. The Membership Director will develop and implement membership growth strategies, track membership metrics, and help shape membership benefits and engagement opportunities. Additional responsibilities include responding to member inquiries, facilitating feedback, and collaborating with the leadership team on budgeting and resource allocation related to membership. This role works closely with internal teams to align membership efforts with the organization’s mission of reducing euthanasia and strengthening the dog rescue ecosystem.
Qualifications

  • Membership Development: Experience in membership development, recruitment, retention, and engagement, preferably in nonprofits, associations, or animal welfare organizations.
  • Communication & Customer Service: Strong written and verbal communication, active listening, and customer service skills to support, guide, and advocate for members.
  • Sales & Relationship Building: Skills in sales, outreach, and relationship management to promote membership value and encourage long-term participation.
  • Budgeting & Resource Management: Ability to understand basic budgeting, prioritize resources, and align membership initiatives with organizational capacity.
  • Additional Qualifications: Proven organizational and time-management skills; comfort working independently in a remote environment; proficiency with online collaboration and CRM or database tools; passion for animal welfare and alignment with the organization’s mission; prior nonprofit or volunteer coordination experience is a plus.
