Become a vital support for Indigenous youth as a Youth Mentor in Agassiz, BC. Utilize traditional teachings to help vulnerable youth facing challenges such as homelessness and violence.
In this temporary role at Xyólheméylh, you’ll provide outreach support and mentoring based on Indigenous cultural values. Your responsibilities include crisis intervention, education, and connecting youth with community resources to promote successful transitions to adulthood. You’ll work closely with community representatives and agency staff to strengthen relationships and uphold cultural integrity within Stó:lō communities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide crisis intervention and mediation for at-risk youth
• Assist youth in exploring community resources for support
• Conduct assessments and educational sessions for life skills
• Maintain Indigenous and Stó:lō cultural values in all efforts
• Collaborate with agency staff to strengthen community links
Requirements:
• Two-year diploma in Human Services or related field
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and family systems
• Strong verbal communication skills emphasizing Indigenous techniques
• Ability to form trusting relationships with youth and families
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation
