HR Manager, Leaves and Employee Relations
The HR Manager for Leaves and Employee Relations is responsible for providing HR services to an assigned non-profit organization by delivering and being accountable for a variety of areas including employee relations, performance and leave management, legal compliance, and assistance with policy development.
In this role, you will also play a vital part in helping our clients achieve their HR goals by providing expert HR guidance and support, coaching supervisors, supporting managers and leadership. Overall you will be responsible to provide support as an HR professional to enable the organization to achieve its operational and long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all employee leave requests, including FMLA, CFRA, Disability, PFL, Personal, and other company-specific leave programs. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Provide specialized consultation to employees, supervisors, and managers, educating them on the leave process and implementing workplace accommodations. Oversee communications related to leave requests, return-to-work processes, and job modifications for both on-site and remote employees.
Provide coaching and consultation to managers at all levels regarding employee relations, performance management, policy violations, and workplace investigations. Assist supervisors in developing performance improvement plans, administering corrective actions, and resolving employee issues in compliance with company policies and values. Handle documentation and coordination of employee relations processes, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, to mitigate risk and promote a fair work environment.
Act as a trusted HR resource, addressing employee concerns and providing timely, professional guidance on HR-related matters. Advise supervisors and employees on HR policies, procedures, and workplace best practices, fostering a culture of transparency and support. Maintain confidentiality while managing sensitive issues and resolving complex workplace challenges.
Identify opportunities to optimize HR processes, automate tasks, and streamline key workflows to enhance efficiency. Manage unemployment claims, workers’ compensation cases, and compliance-related administrative duties. Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth HR operations.
Oversees regular new hire orientations and works in partnership with the HR Generalist to ensure the process is engaging and informative
Conducts and analyzes exit interviews, and recommends retention strategy changes to the Chief Consultant based on feedback from employees
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related field
7+ years in HR roles with a focus on employee relations, leave management, and accommodations.
Excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of employment law, and experience in conflict resolution
Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) Required.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and recommend sound decisions.
Excellent follow up skills
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with discretion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
