Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center (CHEC) is looking for a Executive Director to lead and develop an established center of public environmental education, recreation and conservation at its facilities in Punta Gorda and Englewood, Florida. Experience in overseeing park management, programs, general operations, personnel (both paid staff and volunteers), non-profit legal and financial compliance, and fundraising is a must. The successful candidate will develop working relationships with CHEC’s Board of Directors, state, county and local governmental agencies, donors, foundations, and the community at large to provide high quality, engaging programs that instill appreciation and stewardship of Florida’s natural resources.

The Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, Inc. (CHEC), a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, has been providing environmental education, recreation, and conservation efforts to the citizens and visitors of the greater Charlotte Harbor area since 1987. Two facilities, at Alligator Creek Preserve, Punta Gorda, FL and Cedar Point Environmental Center, Englewood, FL, provide over 20 different educational programs, a total of over 8 miles of hiking trails, and other recreational opportunities to the community. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in natural or environmental sciences, resource management, non-profit management, business administration or other applicable field of study.

A minimum of three years experience in a senior leadership role with a non-profit, government, education or private sector organization.

A passion for Florida ecosystems and the desire to protect them.

High integrity and strong work ethic.

Required Experience and Skills

Organizational :

Personnel management including developing, facilitating, delegating, and evaluating paid staff, volunteers, and contractors.

Experience working with a Board of Directors and knowledge of non-profit best management practices.

Strategic and operational experience relating to environmental preserves and parks.

Communication skills with public, private and governmental agencies and groups.

Financial :

Serves as the Chief Fundraiser and directs mission-related fundraising campaigns through direct communication and interaction with individuals, corporations, and foundations, grant writing, etc.

Financial management skills, including analysis and decision making with a strong understanding of financial reports and the ability to communicate financial information.

Develops and implements a donor stewardship plan.

Development :

Collaboration with the Board of Directors and stakeholders in budgeting, strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of present and future programs.

Experienced and confident public speaker with the ability to be the voice of CHEC and its mission. Communication and engagement of the public to rally support and seek opportunities to share CHEC’s message.

Imaginative and innovative approaches to developing programs and support network.

Terms of Employment Job title: Executive Director

Status: Exempt, Full Time

Salary: $75,000-$80,000 / year

Reports to: Board of Directors President

Hours: Must be willing to work flexible hours for evening meetings and weekend events.
