Emotions Matter, Inc. is a peer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2015 with a mission to advocate for, educate, and support people impacted by borderline personality disorder (BPD). It has developed ground-breaking peer support groups and educational programs led by volunteers, which have helped thousands of people worldwide improve recovery attitudes and outcomes.
About the Role
Emotions Matter is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Events & Communications Coordinator to support the successful execution of the organization’s virtual and in-person fundraising events and campaigns (including the Chicago BPD Walk, the BPD Art Show, and the Holiday Appeal), communications, and key operational priorities. This role is responsible for coordinating event logistics, managing communications projects, supporting fundraising campaigns, and helping ensure organizational initiatives are executed efficiently.

The Events & Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Interim Executive Director.
Schedule and Compensation
- Part-time, 20 hours per week, with some flexibility for extra hours around major events and campaigns
- Fully remote, with possible seasonal attendance at in-person events as needed (primarily NYC)
- Candidates who reside in New York or Florida preferred
- Hourly rate: $24-$26/hour, dependent on experience
- Eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with Emotions Matter policy
Key Responsibilities
Event Coordination
- Coordinate logistics and provide project management support for Emotions Matter’s fundraising events and other organizational initiatives, including the BPD Walk, virtual BPD Art Show, and other in-person and virtual events.
- Research and coordinate outreach to vendors, printers, and event partners.
- Maintain event timelines, task trackers, volunteer sign-ups, and CRM records related to event attendance and volunteer participation.
- Support live event operations across virtual and in-person events, including possible in-person attendance at 1-2 events per year.
- Provide administrative support to the Fundraising and Events Committee and staff, including volunteer communication, task management, and meeting follow-ups.
- Anticipate project needs, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively communicate recommended solutions.
- Track sponsor deliverables (logos, invoices, recognition) and maintain outreach trackers.
- Assist with event registration, supply ordering, shipping, inventory, and other logistical needs.
Communications & Social Media
- Draft and schedule social media content across Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn using Hootsuite.
- Create graphics, presentations, and promotional materials in Canva while maintaining Emotions Matter’s visual brand.
- Draft newsletter and email content and support Mailchimp email/SMS production for events, programs, and campaigns.
- Update Emotions Matter general and event pages on Squarespace.
- Maintain the promotional calendar and track content deadlines.
- Coordinate with volunteers and community members to develop social media and promotional content, including short-form video.
- Track and report on email, website, and social media performance metrics to help inform communications strategy and improve engagement.
Fundraising Campaign Execution & Support
- Assist the Executive Director with execution of the annual Holiday Appeal fundraising campaign.
- Provide administrative support for campaign volunteers, including task tracking, communications, and follow-up.
- Maintain constituent records in the database, including donor lists and segmentation, and manage related audiences and data in Mailchimp.
- Draft campaign emails, social media content, and other campaign materials.
- Assist with production and scheduling of campaign emails and related communications.
- Support Giving Tuesday planning, promotion, and day-of coordination.
- Track constituent interactions in the database and support follow-ups as directed.
Skills and Preferred Qualifications
- A commitment to Emotions Matter’s mission.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience in coordination, administrative, or program support roles. Nonprofit, events, or communications experience preferred but not required.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-through.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to move projects forward independently.
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Identifies problems, researches solutions, and recommends practical next steps.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including comfort making phone calls to vendors, partners, and community members.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with volunteers, vendors, board members, and community partners.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.
- Proficient in Google Workspace, especially Sheets, Docs, and Drive.
- Experience with Canva or similar design tools.
- Experience planning, scheduling, creating and managing social media content (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn).
- Comfortable using technology, learning new platforms, and independently troubleshooting routine issues.
- Experience with platforms such as Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Squarespace, or a CRM (Bloomerang, Salesforce, or similar) is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with peer-to-peer fundraising platforms (Givebutter) preferred.
