About the Position
Animal Care League is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Donor Engagement & Development Assistant to support our fundraising and donor stewardship efforts.
This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit administration.
Working closely with the Executive Director, this position will help ensure that donors receive timely, thoughtful communication and that our donor database remains accurate, organized, and useful.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting & Admin Tasks
- Learn and become proficient in Animal Care League’s donor CRM system.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records.
- Enter and update donor information, gifts, pledges, and other relevant data.
- Run routine and customized CRM reports.
Donor Engagement
- Prepare and send timely donor thank-you letters and acknowledgments.
- Assist with personalized donor correspondence.
- Help ensure donors receive appropriate recognition and follow-up.
- Help plan donor appreciation activities.
Development Support
- Assist the Executive Director with research, data gathering, and reporting.
- Prepare reports for meetings, events, appeals, and board materials..
- Provide administrative support for fundraising campaigns and special projects.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Highly organized.
- Comfortable working with databases, spreadsheets, and technology.
- A quick learner who is willing to become an expert in our CRM system.
- Comfortable working with numbers and pulling information from reports.
- An excellent written communicator.
- Professional, friendly, and comfortable communicating with donors.
- Able to handle confidential donor information with discretion.
- Self-directed and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Reliable and consistent with follow-through.
- Interested in learning about nonprofit fundraising and development.
Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in an administrative or nonprofit setting
- Experience working with a database, CRM or donor management system
- Experience preparing reports, maintaining accurate records, and working with spreadsheets
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a natural ability to build genuine, positive relationships with donors, colleagues, and community members.
- Strong written communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through
Schedule
Part-time, approximately 12 hours per week, with schedule to be determined based on organizational needs and candidate availability.
This position will be based onsite at Animal Care League in Oak Park, Illinois.
