Title: Children 1st Employment Director
Reports to Chief Program Officer
Status: Full-time (32 to 40 hours per week)
Salary: Hourly, $25 per hour, with health benefits
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Location: Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center 2755 E. 19th Street North
Center is open, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30, closed noon to 1 pm daily.
Languages: English, but ability to speak Spanish a plus.
About the Position: Getting Ready Employment, located at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center, helps low-resource parents overcome barriers to employment and achieve greater economic stability. The program provides three core services:
1. Scheduling parents for assessments.
2. One-on-one employment assessments to identify strengths, goals, and barriers.
3. Classroom instruction focused on employment readiness and workplace skills.
4. Job-search coaching to help parents successfully obtain and maintain employment.
Parents may also receive practical supports that address immediate barriers to employment, including identification replacement, fuel-only gift cards for transportation to and from work, appropriate clothing, and personal hygiene items.
The Team: The Getting Ready Employment team consists of
· Employment Director – Full-time
· Assessment Specialist – Full-time
· Scheduler – Part-time
Clients: Getting Ready Employment is funded by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF). The program primarily serves parents who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits and are referred through the DCF portal system.
When the program is not operating at capacity, additional participants may be served, including:
· Parents participating in the Children 1st Journey Home program.
· Parents participating in Homeless Youth approaches who are required to attend employment services.
· Individuals referred by other nonprofit and community agencies.
The program serves a diverse population of parents who may be experiencing poverty, housing instability, transportation challenges, and other barriers to employment.
Primary Responsibilities
The position is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Children 1st Getting Ready Employment Program, including:
- Program Management and Supervision: Manage the day-to-day operation of the Getting Ready Employment Program and provide effective supervision to program staff.
- Reporting and Documentation: Complete and submit all required monthly reports accurately and on time.
- DCF Coordination: Maintain timely and professional communication with DCF, address questions or concerns, and resolve program issues promptly.
- Classroom Instruction: Teach weekly employment-readiness classes held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- Participant Support: Ensure participants receive individualized assistance, coaching, and appropriate referrals to address barriers to employment.
- Community Collaboration: Work effectively with DCF, Children 1st programs, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners to support participants’ employment goals.
Qualifications and Requirements: The ideal candidate will have
- Supervisory and Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience supervising staff and teaching or facilitating classes with adults is a plus.
- Experience Working with Diverse Populations: The ability to work respectfully and effectively with parents from diverse backgrounds, including individuals experiencing poverty and significant barriers to employment.
- Confidentiality and Professionalism: A strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting the privacy of participants and their personal circumstances.
- Advanced Computer Skills: Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively use program databases, reporting systems, Microsoft Office, and other technology platforms.
- Strong Attention to Detail: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and identify issues before they become problems.
- Education: A college degree is preferred, particularly in education, social services, human services, workforce development, business, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, organized and dependable, and comfortable balancing program management with direct service. They should be able to build trusting relationships with parents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and accountability. Most importantly, the candidate should believe that parents facing significant barriers can achieve employment and greater stability when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities.
