About SIDEINCAN
SIDEINCAN Youth Disciples is a community-based nonprofit empowering
less-privileged and differently-abled children (ages 5–21) in Nassau and
Queens Counties to become confident, compassionate leaders. We pair
family-centered case work and therapy with year-round leadership
programs, cultural experiences and mentoring.
Why We Need You
Our relaunch is underway and we’re seating a diverse, nine- to
eleven-member governing board. Directors will help shape strategy, open
doors to resources, and ensure every child in our community can move
from the sidelines into leadership.
Core Responsibilities
Attend four board meetings per year (virtual or in-person) and one
retreat.
Serve on at least one committee (Governance, Finance, Development,
Programs).
Review budgets and key program results; uphold legal and ethical
integrity.
Make an annual “give or get” gift at a personally meaningful level.
Act as an ambassador—introducing SIDEINCAN to networks, founders and
media.
Skill Sets & Perspectives We’re Seeking
We welcome local professionals, parents and community leaders who bring
any of the following:
Youth development, social work, special education or disability services
Family therapy, mental-health counseling, nursing or public health
Accounting, financial management, budgeting or audit experience
Fundraising, marketing, corporate social-responsibility or event
planning
Legal (child/family law, nonprofit compliance)
Faith or community leadership, intercultural engagement
Entrepreneurship or strategic-planning expertise
“Lived experience” as a parent of a differently-abled child or a
SIDEINCAN alumnus
Time Commitment ≈ 4–6 hours/month
