Job Title: Development and Strategic Partnerships Director

Reports To: Executive Director (or designee)

Location: San Francisco (agency-wide)

Compensation: $104,000 annually (equivalent to $130,000 full-time), depending on experience. Excellent benefits (Kaiser Platinum HMO, Met Life Dental, 100% employer paid coverage for employees); automatic retirement contribution, 15 holidays, generous sick and vacation accrual.

Supervises: Communications, Development Staff, and Contractors

Classification: Exempt .8 FTE (4 days/week)

Schedule: Monday-Friday (3 days onsite and 1 day remote after intro period), and occasional weekends

Position Summary

Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Development and Strategic Partnerships Director leads the organization’s fundraising strategy outside of public funds, driving revenue growth to advance mission-driven programs and long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a doer, with a proven ability to cultivate high-impact partnerships, secure significant private support, and deepen donor engagement. This role is well suited for a development professional with strong experience in fundraising and grant writing, and a demonstrated ability to build and steward relationships with institutional and individual funders. A passion for FCC’s mission and a strong understanding of the Bay Area non-profit landscape is required.

The successful candidate is a creative and analytical thinker who is highly effective with both people and data. They are self-directed, collaborative, and able to contribute to both strategy and execution as part of the leadership team. Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, editing, project management, and organizational skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Fundraising Strategy and Growth

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to advance the organization’s mission and achieve annual revenue goals.
  • Oversee a diversified portfolio of funding sources—including major gifts, foundation and corporate grants, annual giving, partnerships, and special events—while identifying new opportunities for growth.
  • Monitor fundraising performance and trends to inform strategy and ensure sustainable donor support.

Build Transformational Donor and Partner Relationships

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, foundations, corporate partners, community leaders, and other strategic partners.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization, representing its mission at external meetings, conferences, and events while building strategic partnerships that deepen impact and expand resources.

Drive Grant Strategy and Institutional Giving

  • Direct grant development, including prospect research, consultants, proposal development, submission, and reporting.
  • Maintain strong relationships with institutional funders through proactive communication, stewardship, and engagement, ensuring timely acknowledgments and compliance with grant requirements.

Strengthen Team Leadership & Communications Alignment

  • Supervise and mentor the Communications Coordinator, ensuring that communications, storytelling, and marketing initiatives support fundraising priorities, strengthen donor engagement, and elevate the organization’s impact and visibility.
  • Ensure that donor communications, campaign materials, and outreach effectively convey the organization’s impact and investment.

Lead Development Operations and Team Performance

  • Oversee development systems and processes that support effective fundraising, including donor and grant tracking in Salesforce, performance monitoring, and budget management.
  • Supervise and mentor development and communications staff to ensure strong execution and collaboration.
