Mychal’s Learning Place is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support, training and opportunities to youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to build their independence and pursue their goals and dreams.

Mychal’s Café is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and service-oriented Café Manager to lead daily operations of our breakfast and lunch café. The Café Manager will work closely with the Head Chef to manage Front of House and Back of House operations. The Café Manager will oversee guest service, food & beverage operations, catering, inventory, scheduling and overall café performance while creating a welcoming and positive environment for both customers and team members.

This is a hands on leadership position for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced café environment, and takes pride in delivering excellent service and maintaining high operating standards.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Oversee day-to-day café operations during breakfast and lunch service.
  • Lead, hire, train, coach, evaluate and motivate café staff.
  • Work with Mychal’s program support staff to train Mychal’s participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities on job duties and responsibilities
  • P&L Ownership: sales, labor, food cost, hitting financial targets
  • Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage seven days a week
  • Ensure excellent customer service and a warm, welcoming café experience.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Monitor daily opening, closing and cash-handling procedures.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, storage and waste control.
  • Coordinate with kitchen and front of house staff to maintain an efficient service flow
  • Address customer questions, concerns, and service issues professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, food-safety, and workplace standards.
  • Monitor labor and operating costs and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked cafe.
  • Lead by example and foster a respectful, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
  • Support special events, promotions, and other cafe initiatives as needed.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, coaching, and performance conversations

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in cafe, restaurant, hospitality, or food-service management.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Exceptional customer-service and communication skills.
  • Takes ownership of position and doesn’t wait to be told what to do.
  • Ability to train and develop employees effectively.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Enforcement of all employee certifications including food handlers and ABC alcohol server certification.
  • Experience in shift management, kitchen operations, and supervising food handling activities.
  • Experience with POS systems (Toast Preferred), cash handling, inventory, and scheduling.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Reliable, professional, and able to maintain a positive attitude under pressure.
  • Background in hospitality management with experience in managing restaurant experience or food service management roles such as barista or coffee shop experience is advantageous.

Schedule

Mychal’s Cafe is open 7 days a week 7:30a.m. – 2:00p.m. for breakfast and lunch. The Cafe Manager must have availability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and occasional holidays, with the specific schedule determined by business needs.

Pay: $30.00 – $34.00 per hour
