Description
The Kentucky Arts Council is the state arts agency and is responsible for developing and promoting support for the arts in Kentucky. Strategically placed in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, the Kentucky Arts Council is publicly funded by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, an independent agency of the federal government.
The mission of the Kentucky Arts Council (KAC) is to foster environments for the people of Kentucky to value, participate in, and benefit from the arts.
The Arts Education Director must have strong organizational skills and be detail oriented, adept in planning, comfortable engaging in-person, by phone and virtually in both one-on-one and groups settings, be willing to learn and take direction, a self-starter yet able to work collaboratively, and most importantly, be highly motivated.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Managing grant, award, and adjudicated programs (for example, Teaching Art Together, Creative Chapters, and Arts Miles grant programs, Teaching Artist and Arts Miles directories, and Poetry Out Loud).
- Researching, developing, and presenting arts education models and best practices.
- Developing workshops, webinars, training, panel discussions, and annual orientation for teaching artists.
- Representing the Kentucky Arts Council with national and state agencies, Kentucky schools and libraries, regional and local arts organizations, and others as appropriate.
- Working across disciplines with other agency staff as part of a team.
- Promoting KAC programs and grant services.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive), Zoom and other conferencing platforms, and general office equipment

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in the administration of or consultation with organizations that serve artists or foster public involvement in the arts.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in creative arts or arts management will substitute for the experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in creative arts or arts management will substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Travel is required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
