Organization Description

Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually – all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Position

Summary

We are seeking three (3) Full‑Time Ameri Corps members for the 2026‑2027 service year to serve as Lead Program Specialists. These Ameri Corps positions are enrolled through the Frostburg State University ASTAR program. The Ameri Corps Program Specialists will be key program leaders at our new program location in Queenstown, Maryland. They will be part of the leadership team and provide support to the seasonal program counselors, aid in the preparation of the new facility, and be responsible for the set up and facilitation of Camp program areas.

Depending on skills and interests, Lead Program Specialists will spend a portion of their work week assisting in organization of the site, leading volunteer groups, and providing office management. Lead Program specialists should expect their role to change throughout the calendar year based on the current needs of the program schedule.

Ameri Corps Requirements for Applicants

  • Haveastronginterestinservingthecommunity.
  • Beabletorelatetodiversepopulations.
  • Abletoprovidecopyofeitherhighschooldiploma,GED,orcollegetranscript
  • Havereliabletransportation.
  • Mustsuccessfullypassacomprehensive Criminal History Check ,which includes

    FBI fingerprinting.

  • Applicants DO NOT need to be college students; anyone from the community who fits the above and below requirements may participate.

  • Mustbephysicallyandmentallycapableofworkingwithchildrenandteencampersaswellastheiradultcaregivers.
  • Mustbefamiliarwithandenforceallsafety,emergency,and Camp policies.
  • Committofosteringacommunitythatcelebratesour Camp values,whichareinclusion,gratitude,possibility,friendship,andsafety.
  • Abilitytoworkoutdoorsinhotandcoldweatherconditions.
  • Valid Driver’slicenseanddrivingrecordwhichmeets

    Campinsurancecarrierrequirements.

  • Abilitytofrequentlyliftupto
    25pounds.

Position Responsibilities

  • Participateinrequiredon-siteorientationandindividualprogramtraining.
  • Assistinplanningandfacilitatingseasonalstafforientationsandspecificprogramareaorientations.
  • Assistinthecompilationofnecessarycertificationsforprogramstaffinthefollowingareas:

    Pool,&Archery.

    Additionally,betrainedinasmanyoftheseareasaspossible.

  • Assureprogramareasremainsafe,organizedandstockedthroughouttheprogramcalendar.
  • Assistintheadmissionsdepartmentinrecruitingfamiliesasneeded.
  • Assistinmanagingthe Campofficewithphonecallsandemailresponses.
  • Organizeandfacilitateall-campactivitiesalongsidetherestofthe

  • Helpcreateandfosteranenvironmentthatpromotesinclusivity,safety,and participation.
  • Learnandhelpleadcommunicationaboutprogramneeds,program development,andweatherplans.

Education and Experience

  • Interestinacareerwithingthe Camping,Non-profitor

    Medical fields.

  • Experiencewithand/oranunderstandingofresidentialcampprogrammingpreferredbutnotrequired.
  • Courseworkinarelatedfieldisdesirable,butthereisnominimumeducationrequirement.
  • Excellentinterpersonalcommunicationskills;includingwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills.
  • Self-starterwithabilitytomulti-taskandprioritizeworkday/projects independently.
  • Computer literacy,specifically

    MSOffice

    Suite,Outlook and Internet.
