Position Overview

New Horizons is seeking a motivated and energetic Summer Camp Counselor to support our Youth Services Summer Programming. This is a great opportunity for students interested in human services, education, social work, or related fields. The intern will assist in planning and facilitating activities, supporting participants, and ensuring a fun and inclusive experience for all. This will include supporting a summer Youth Leadership Program (1-week) as well as Camp CapAbility (4-weeks)- an inclusive summer camp for students with disabilities. Intern would need to be available from mid-June through August 1, 2025.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with planning and running summer programming activities, including games, creative projects, pre-employment activities, site visits, and group discussions

Provide hands-on support to the Youth Services team in facilitating an engaging and safe environment

Help lead discussions and social activities designed to promote communication, teamwork, and workplace skill development

Support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in participating in activities and engaging with peers

Ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all participants

Assist with setup, cleanup, and general program logistics

Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program

Requirements

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a community college or university program

Interest in human services, education, social work, or a related field

Previous experience in summer camps, education, recreational programs, or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Energetic, patient, and adaptable in a dynamic environment

Ability to commit to the full duration of the internship
