Youth Peer Advocate
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Peer Advocate will act as a co-chair with the coalition leader and be responsible for coordination of youth related activities. The Youth Peer Advocate will report to the Coalition Coordinator for the PFS grant.
Accountable and responsible for the following results:
Respect the rights of coalition members to hold their own opinions and beliefs.
Increase youth membership in the coalition.
Create and assist in implementing youth led strategies and campaigns.
Develop collaborative partnership with school and community youth groups.
Attend grant required trainings.
Attend monthly coalition meetings.
Participate in training on the Strategic Prevention Framework.
Provide opportunities for youth to work directly with the coalition in all steps of the Strategic Prevention Framework.
Represent the coalition on the Governor’s Prevention Partnership youth advisory board.
Qualifications
A youth aged 16-24 and a resident of the community that they will be representing (Ansonia, Derby or East Haven).
Strong interest in substance use prevention.
Excellent communication skills. Must display interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations including but not limited to youth, schools, law enforcement and community leaders.
