PURPOSE:
S.H.I.F.T. (Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today) provides safe, respectful, and welcoming overnight accommodation, meals, and support to those experiencing or at risk of homelessness and/or food insecurity in South Simcoe. We aim to connect individuals to further services and resources, fostering community building and ensuring that homelessness and food insecurity do not define a person.
We are seeking individuals to support our housing-focused outreach program, which operates 7 days a week across five municipalities in South Simcoe. The Youth Outreach Worker will work a rotating schedule, including early mornings, days, late afternoons, and weekends, for up to 40 hours per week.
LOCATION:
Based at 123 Victoria St. W., Alliston (S.H.I.F.T. Headquarters), with mobile outreach throughout South Simcoe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participant Screening, Assessment, and Intake: Engage with participants accessing the S.H.I.F.T. Outreach program, maintain proper documentation for clinical purposes.
Case Management, Shelter Diversion, and Data Management: Assess needs with a diversion approach, establish housing-related goals, and maintain records (electronic and written).
Program Operations: Carry out daily outreach activities, collaborate with staff, model policies, and oversee housing-related tasks.
Collaboration and Communication: Maintain open communication with staff, volunteers, and supervisors, utilizing support and supervision as needed.
Cleaning and Inventory: Perform routine cleaning, garbage duties, and inventory of supplies, communicating needs to the Outreach Coordinator.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY:
All employees must work in a manner that safeguards their own health and safety and that of others, adhering to health and safety policies, including infection prevention and control measures, PPE use, and active screening protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or related human services field.
Lived experience with homelessness or working with marginalized individuals is an asset.
Ability to handle challenging behaviors and stressful situations, with effective conflict and crisis management skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to set boundaries.
Problem-solving, multi-tasking, and teamwork abilities.
Certification or ability to obtain certification in NVCI and Level C First Aid and CPR, including AED knowledge.
Vulnerable Sector and Police Check required.
Valid Class G Driver’s License with 5 years’ driving experience and a clean driver abstract.
SCHEDULE &
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Contract position, starting as soon as possible, with a rotation of weekdays and weekends. The role involves street, outdoor, and vehicle-based outreach in all weather conditions. Appropriate clothing and footwear are required.
WAGE:
Starts at $22.00 per hour.
