Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) is seeking an energetic, organized, and community-minded professional to serve as our Youth & Community Prevention Coordinator. This position leads the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition and manages LYSB’s federally funded Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant Program. The Prevention Coalition brings together youth, parents, schools, community organizations, municipal leaders, and other partners to prevent and reduce youth substance use, strengthen protective factors, promote mental health and well-being, and create a healthier community for young people.
The Coordinator leads strategies designed to prevent youth substance use and promote youth well-being before problems occur. A background in mental health, behavioral health, social work, counseling, public health, education, or youth development can be highly valuable, particularly when combined with experience or interest in prevention, community engagement, program development, project management, or coalition work.This is a community-based prevention position, not a clinical or treatment position.

The ideal candidate is an organizer, communicator, and relationship-builder who enjoys bringing people together around a common goal. This position is a great fit for someone who can move comfortably between working with teenagers, facilitating a community coalition, coordinating programs and awareness campaigns, managing a federal grant, using data to guide strategies, and building partnerships with schools, parents, municipal leaders, and community organizations.
Primary Responsibilities
· Provide leadership and coordination for the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition.
· Work with the Executive Director and Coalition members to develop goals, objectives, strategies, and programs based on identified community needs.
· Lead Coalition planning and activities using the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).
· Implement evidence-based, community-level strategies to prevent youth alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other substance misuse.
· Lead the Youth Coalition and coordinate its activities, including supervising and supporting Youth Advocates.
· Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives that promote healthy social and emotional development among young people.
· Plan and coordinate school- and community-based education and awareness events, media campaigns, and parent/community outreach.
· Develop educational materials and deliver presentations and trainings for youth, parents, schools, Coalition members, and community audiences.
· Manage the Coalition’s social media, communications, and public relations efforts.
· Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, municipal leaders, youth groups, community organizations, volunteers, parents, and other community stakeholders.
· Manage the requirements of the federal Drug-Free Communities grant, including budgets, progress reports, required meetings and trainings, data collection, documentation, and grant deliverables.
· Assist with grant writing, program evaluation, data collection, and reporting related to prevention and youth wellness initiatives.
· Represent LYSB and the Prevention Coalition at community events and local, regional, and state prevention meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in public health, human services, social work, education, psychology, counseling, community development, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
· At least two years of relevant professional experience.
· Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to establish goals and timelines, coordinate multiple projects, monitor progress and deliverables, manage budgets, and prepare reports.
· Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with youth, parents, volunteers, school personnel, community members, and community leaders.
· Ability to develop engaging and age-appropriate programs and communications for youth and adults.
· Interest in and understanding of youth substance use prevention and youth mental health and wellness.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
· Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings and events.
· Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
Preferred
· Master’s degree in a related field.
· Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential. Certification is preferred but not required; LYSB will support the successful candidate in working toward certification.
· Experience working directly with youth.
· Experience coordinating coalitions, community initiatives, or collaborative partnerships.
· Experience managing grants, large projects, or federally funded programs.
· Familiarity with evidence-based prevention strategies, the Strategic Prevention Framework, or community-level substance use prevention.
Salary, Benefits & Work Environment
This is a full-time, salaried position with an annual salary of $55,000–$65,000, based on qualifications and experience.

The position is primarily based at LYSB in Old Lyme, Connecticut, with work taking place throughout the Lyme and Old Lyme communities. Some evening and weekend meetings and events are required. This position is supported by the federal Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant Program, with five years remaining in the current grant period.
