Youth Advocate – Community Improvement and Job Training (CIJT)

Position Summary: This position serves as a Youth Advocate for the CIJT program, providing guidance and case management services to adolescents and young adults aged 16-23. The primary focus is on their personal, social, cultural, and educational development.

Essential Functions:

Evaluate and assess the needs of youth related to gang involvement.

Utilize evidence-based practices in service delivery.

Develop engaging recruitment and retention techniques.

Provide mentoring and career counseling to a caseload of 25-40 participants.

Facilitate workshops on AODA education, Life Skills, Gang Prevention, and Employment Readiness.

Develop and implement individual development plans.

Maintain confidentiality of participant records.

Utilize community resources effectively.

Support data entry and program coordination.

Assist in program orientation, training, and oversight.

Complete intake and weekly progress notes.

Participate in team meetings and relevant events.

Work Relationship and Scope: The role involves working with at-risk youth aged 16-23, primarily in neighborhoods surrounding the program location. The position requires collaboration with community organizations, law enforcement, educational institutions, and other resources to reduce violence and gang involvement.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of youth development, gang behavior, and effective intervention practices.

Experience working with at-risk youth and their families.

BA/BS in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

Valid driver’s license and insured automobile.

Ability to interact professionally with youth and families.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

Understanding of cultural, ethnic, and disability issues.

Knowledge of community resources and recruiting skills is a plus.

Additional Attributes: Adherence to the agency’s Code of Conduct, ethical behavior, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity. Work is primarily in the 53212 neighborhood, with hours from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, including some weekends. Physical ability to sit, stand, reach, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds is required.
