POSITION OVERVIEW: Hudson Guild seeks to hire a Workforce Development Specialist as a dedicated resource supporting a newly launched workforce development program. This position requires a person with energy, creativity, and dedication to supporting participants in gaining training/employment. The position presents an opportunity to play an important role in shaping/directing the strategy of this new program, with the potential to grow into a management/leadership role.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, or Human Resources; minimum of 3 years of workforce development experience, relationship building, strong collaboration/organization skills, or 5 years of successful workforce development experience. Strong organizational and communication skills (including writing).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience serving young adults and 18+ person(s), preferably in a community center setting, as well as knowledge of NYCHA community and agency needs. Knowledge/experience working with justice-involved person(s). Office technology proficiency (including Google Suite, Microsoft Office). Bilingual in Spanish/English.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop outreach initiatives to recruit program participants.
Identify and build knowledge of/relationships with NYC private and public sector organizations (including employers, training/education partners, and other workforce development programs) to establish opportunities for employment, internships, job skills, or readiness training.
Connect with participants seeking employment to explore career goals and opportunities, enhance job readiness, and facilitate access to supporting programs and partner organizations.
Offer Case Management services, creating and implementing needs assessments and action plans for participants.
Develop and maintain a case tracking system; generate statistics and overall progress reports.
Provide individual/group workshops in resume writing, job search, interview techniques, social media, and effective communication.
Participate in internal/external networking events, job fairs, community outreach, etc.
Utilize participant and partner information/research to determine program directions and goals.
Communicate effectively with participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and staff.
Keep supervisor up-to-date (verbally and in writing) of client and/or program-related issues, problems, concerns.
Ensure program compliance with Hudson Guild policies and procedures.
Be aware of programmatic targets and goals and work towards these in all activities provided to participants.
Collect and enter required data in a timely manner.
Engage in professional development and apply learned knowledge towards using evidence-based best practices.
Engage in data analysis processes conducted by the Evaluation and Quality team to determine strengths and areas for improvement and follow action steps in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process.
Assist in carrying out and participate in Community Building activities to support organizational effectiveness and outreach.
Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Travel between multiple sites consisting of office(s) and community center environments. Be able to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires constant communication with participants and co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Frequent operation of a computer and other office equipment, such as phone and copy machines. Occasionally lift 25lbs and remain stationary for long periods.
