Volunteer Docent Program – Jack’s Pond Nature Center

The City of San Marcos’ Parks and Recreation Department seeks volunteers to serve as docents at the Jack’s Pond Nature Center. Interested parties must be at least 18 years old, enjoy nature, and wish to educate visitors about the local habitat.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a docent at least one day per month, primarily Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Oversee the nature center and guide visitors through 10 themed rooms featuring local flora and fauna.
  • Participate in city events, school field trips, and other activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age at the time of assignment.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Commitment to a consistent, ongoing volunteer schedule.
  • Enthusiasm for working with the public and sharing a passion for nature and recreation.
  • Availability to volunteer in person on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
