Elara Caring, one of the nation’s largest providers of home-based care, is looking for compassionate volunteers willing to donate their time to provide exceptional end-of-life care to local hospice patients and their families.
Volunteers are needed to visit with patients and engage them in activities such as playing music, singing, working on a craft project, sharing a special moment, or simply providing companionship through listening, talking, or holding a hand. Volunteers can sometimes provide respite care, allowing family members to take a much-needed break.
There are also volunteer opportunities within Elara Caring Hospice office, assisting staff with mailing, filing, data entry, and other special projects.
Elara Caring is also looking for pet therapy volunteers. These volunteers, along with their trained pet companions, visit Hospice patients in facilities. Dogs must be certified in order to visit patients.
Hours are flexible, weekdays, evenings, or weekends. Typically, we ask that you visit your assigned patient 1-2 hours per week or offer 1-2 hours per week working in the office.
Elara Caring Hospice encourages a philosophy of care that assists patients, caregivers, family, and friends during the final stages of terminal illness. Time is limited, yet of eternal value. What makes it so is how you use it and to whom you give it. Share your gift of time with a patient on their end-of-life journey. No special skills are necessary, just a listening ear and an open heart. It will be some of the most rewarding time you’ll ever spend.
Elara Caring Hospice is currently looking for Volunteers:
Companion Volunteers, Pet Therapy, Veteran Volunteers, Office Volunteers, and Crafting Volunteers. We have patients in need in outlying areas as well as the Grand Rapids Area. These areas include Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, Wayland/Hastings, Greenville, Rockford, Holland, and Saugatuck/Douglas.
