Mission:
The Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that inspires ocean stewardship through animal rescue and rehabilitation, medical research, STEM education programs, and advocacy for a healthy ocean.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a full-time, temporary Volunteer Coordinator to assist with our volunteer program while our Director of Volunteer Engagement is on leave. The candidate applying for this position must recognize the importance of our volunteer program at PMMC, as we are run by a small paid staff and a wide volunteer base of dedicated individuals. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the retention and engagement of 400+ volunteers. This position works with all departments to ensure volunteer needs are met at PMMC. This role is responsible for coordinating the recruitment, interview process, and onboarding of all volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
·      Engage with our volunteer base
·      Send out volunteer communications
·      Respond to volunteer inquiries
·      Organize volunteer schedules (Animal Care, Education, and Retail)
·      Maintain volunteer recruitment websites
·      Review volunteer applications and background checks
·      Conduct volunteer interviews with respective departments
·      Prepare paperwork for volunteer onboarding
·      Coordinate and run volunteer orientations
·      Assemble and distribute our Team PMMC Newsletter
·      Deliver incentive programs
·      Conflict resolution for volunteers
·      Protect PMMC’s values and individuals’ privacy by maintaining confidentiality
Qualifications:
·      Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
·      Must have a valid California Driver’s License and automobile insurance
·      Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, board members, volunteers, and guests
·      Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Other relevant information:
·      Familiarity with Better Impact, Slack, Moodle, Canva, and Constant Contact is a plus
Location:
While we undergo renovations to our main center, the office location will be split between our Field Hospital and Broadway office; both in Laguna Beach.
