Volunteer Board of Directors Member Jobs in Remote at SafeSteps Initiative
SafeSteps Initiative
The mission of SafeSteps Initiative is to offer compassionate, caring, and nonjudgmental support and resources for people who use drugs, guiding them toward healthier decisions and reducing the harms associated with substance use.
SafeSteps Initiative is a harm reduction based organization that is in rural Northern Michigan in Montmorency County. The opioid epidemic and substance use affects the people in this community and the surrounding areas just as much as it does in bigger cities. To carry out our mission our organization will engage in the following programs and activities:
- Recovery Housing – Providing safe, stable, and supportive residential environments for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders, in compliance with applicable Michigan licensing and zoning requirements
- Overdose Prevention Hotline – Operating a video-chat-capable hotline staffed by trained personnel to provide immediate support to individuals using drugs alone, reducing the risk of fatal overdose
- Syringe Service Program – Operating a syringe service program to provide sterile injection equipment, safe disposal services, and connections to care, in compliance with Michigan Public Health Code (MCL 333.7401a et seq.)
- Naloxone Distribution – Distributing Naloxone and providing training on its use for overdose reversal to community members, service providers, and people who use drugs
- Peer Recovery Coaching – Offering peer-based recovery support services, including one-on-one coaching, system navigation, and emotional support
- 12 Step and Mutual Aid Meetings – Hosting 12-Step Meetings and other mutual aid peer support groups as a meeting space and facilitator
- Overdose Prevention Education and Training – Providing community education, workshops, and trainings, on overdose prevention, harm reduction principles, and safer use practices
- Mobile Community Outreach – Operating mobile outreach services to deliver harm reduction supplies, information, referrals, and support to underserved communities across the Corporation’s service area
- Referral and Navigation Services – Connecting participants to substance use disorder treatment, mental health care, primary care, housing assistance, benefits enrollment, and other supportive services
