This program supports safer, cleaner neighborhoods and helps rebuild a sense of shared community ownership over public streets and gathering spaces.
Position Summary
Street & Community Cleanup Volunteers work in teams to remove trash, rubble, and hazardous debris from streets, sidewalks, and public areas. Volunteers help prepare sites for cleanup, sort and dispose of waste safely, and support broader neighborhood restoration efforts alongside local residents and partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in scheduled street and public-space cleanup sessions
- Collect, sort, and properly dispose of trash, debris, and recyclable materials
- Identify and flag hazardous materials or unstable structures to site supervisors (never handle these directly)
- Follow all safety protocols and use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Work cooperatively with fellow volunteers, local community members, and site coordinators
- Help set up and break down cleanup sites, including tools and equipment
- Report any safety concerns, injuries, or incidents to the site supervisor immediately
- Represent the organization professionally and respectfully within the community
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older (or 16+ with signed guardian consent, if permitted by local program policy)
- Physically able to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Reliable and punctual; able to commit to the scheduled shift(s)
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Respectful of local customs, communities, and cultural norms
- Arabic language skills helpful but not required (interpreters/team leads available)
- No prior experience required — training is provided
Safety & Training
- All volunteers must complete a mandatory safety orientation before their first shift
- PPE (gloves, masks, sturdy footwear requirements, and high-visibility vests) will be provided or specified in advance
- Volunteers are strictly prohibited from handling suspicious objects, or unstable debris — these must be reported to the site supervisor immediately
- A designated safety officer will be present at all cleanup sites
- Basic first aid will be available on-site
