Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and strategic UPK (Universal Pre-Kindergarten) Director to lead our early childhood education initiatives. The UPK Program Director will supervise the UPK Program including wraparound care services and ensure that the curriculum and program meet the requirements of OCFS, NYS Guidelines for UPK and the school district’s policies and procedures. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
This leadership role involves overseeing the implementation of curriculum, managing staff and budgets, ensuring compliance with educational regulations including OCFS wraparound care requirements, and fostering a nurturing environment for young learners. The UPK Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience for children while collaborating with staff, families, and community partners to promote childhood development excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum aligned with early childhood standards and best practices.
- Supervise UPK head and assistant teachers to ensure high-quality instruction and effective team management.
- Oversee daily operations of the preschool program, ensuring adherence to educational policies, safety protocols, and legal requirements related to early childhood education.
- Assists in managing and controlling program budget.
- Manages state licenses. Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Ensure staff meet all professional development requirements to enhance instructional leadership skills, classroom management techniques, and compliance knowledge and to comply with NYS and OCFS standards.
- Conduct faculty evaluations focusing on instructional quality, classroom environment, and professional growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with families, community partners, and regulatory agencies to promote inclusive education practices and ensure program compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Supervises program staff. Assist in payroll as needed, oversees scheduling and training requirements. Evaluates employee performance.
- 3. Respond to all parent, school district and OCFS concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- 8. Provides direction and guidance of head teachers lesson plans and schedules.
- 9. Contributes to child learning, growth, and advancement.
- Works efficiently within existing learning structures and believes in the capability of children to excel.
- Adheres to school processes and protocols.
- Shows an awareness and sensitivity to children’s moods; adjusts program standards when the children are fatigued, irritated, or over-stimulated.
- Maintains high standards of professional ethics as put forth in the childcare and personnel policies of the YMCA.
- Works cooperatively, as a team member, with other staff.
- Attend and participate in all trainings and meetings.
Qualifications
- Masters in Early Childhood Education preferred, a minimum, a bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education, AND
- Have a study plan to become certified within 5 years upon the start date of their appointment of an on-site director.
- Meet OCFS Childcare Director requirements
- Extensive experience in school administrative leadership within early childhood or K-12 settings.
- Three- five years’ experience with Early Childcare preferred
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in supervising school staff and facilitating professional development initiatives.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds in early childhood or elementary education settings.
- Excellent communication skills for public speaking, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with educational compliance standards and personnel management in education administration
Pay: $62,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
