Location: The Salvation Army – Meridian, MS Thrift Store
Position Title: Truck Helper & Sorting Room Worker
About this opportunity:
Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse.
Responsibilities include:
Assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
Assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
Assumes the duties of the Truck Driver as needed.
What we are looking for in you:
No formal education required, and six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to communicate the English language. Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy objects (25-50 lbs.). Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to operate a cash register. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change. Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
