The Freeman Center Is The Focal Point For Christopher Newport University’s Indoor Sport And Recreation And Health And Wellness Services And Initiatives, While Providing a Place For The University Community To Meet And For Students To Perform. The Goal For This Facility Is To Offer An Increased Edge For Our “indoor” Athletic Teams During NCAA Competition, Support The Personal Development And Well-being Of The Members Of The University Community, And Expand The Reach Of The University To The Local, Regional And National Spotlight.Purpose Of The Position:
Reporting to the Building Manager of the Freeman Center through the Maintenance Supervisor, this position will be responsible for providing all around maintenance and repair of all areas of the building on a daily basis. This position is also responsible for ensuring the Freeman Center is well-maintained, clean and safe by performing maintenance tasks that are simple and some moderately complex in nature. This position will be available in an on-call capacity on an as-needed basis. This position is also responsible for chair alignment and maintenance in the Pope Chapel.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position:
Under minimal supervision, must be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs and maintenance in various trades/utilities, including simple carpentry, plumbing and electrical work
Ability to survey a room and assess damages and make repairs
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, communicate effectively with others, and to perform heavy manual labor
Ability to resolve most routine questions and problems independently and prioritize work-orders
Ability to know when to refer questions and problems to supervisor
Working knowledge of the following trade/operational areas: building maintenance (carpentry and painting), plumbing, electrical, housekeeping and inventory management
Ability to work a flexible schedule with after hour call-ins as necessary
Ability to monitor fire extinguishers, generators, HVAC units and replace various filters

- High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
