Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Thrift Shop Manager, the Thrift Store Associate is responsible for assisting the Thrift Store Manager and volunteers in all aspects of the thrift store operation, including guidance and support to volunteers, accepting donations, sorting, pricing, merchandising, opening, and closing procedures, cash management, and facility maintenance. The associate must also provide excellent customer service and foster donor relationships.
Responsibilities
- Assists with training, directing, and providing guidance and support to the thrift store volunteers.
- Assists with receiving and processing donations.
- Assists with the distribution of merchandise to the sales floor.
- Assists with visual merchandising as directed.
- Assists with sorting and pricing of incoming merchandise.
- Provides excellent customer service to ensure customers have a positive shopping experience. Assists customers by answering questions, informing them of current sales, processing their purchases, and promotes return visits. Models behavior expected of the volunteers when interacting with customers.
- Adheres to and ensures adherence to thrift store policies and procedures.
- Assists with and utilizes all aspects of the thrift store cash management systems, including cash handling, credit card processing, and daily banking.
- Assists with daily cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Attends RCHF meetings as needed.
- Willing to extend work hours or cover Store Manager shifts as needed and approved by the Thrift Shop Manager or Development & Events Manager.
- Assists Thrift Store Manager with volunteer scheduling and assists with new volunteer recruitment.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in English.
- Ability to present a professional appearance both in dress and demeanor.
- Assists Store Manager in social media content.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Experience: Minimum one year customer service-based retail experience.
