Founded in 1994, Teen Esteem (TE) educates, equips and empowers K-12 students, parents and educators throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Our team of speakers meets directly with students in schools and emphasizes the importance of self-respect and respect for others. TE’s dynamic, interactive classroom presentations and school assemblies address current challenges students face in school and at home. We are committed to promoting healthy choices and risk avoidance using accurate, up-to-date statistics and information to support our presentations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This part-time position will be part of a small, dynamic team. Lead Speaker is one of the stars of Teen Esteem’s speaker team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this gifted public speaker delivers our critical programming to students in schools throughout the Tri-Valley. The position will assist in recruiting and training new speakers. In addition to implementing our classroom presentations and school assemblies, the Lead Speaker will assist in the development of new Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. As our Social Media Manager, this position will drive our content and messaging across multiple social media platforms.

The Lead Speaker & Social Media Manager will be a positive, energetic team member ready to inspire our speakers and be passionate about the wellbeing of today’s kids and teens.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Include but are not limited to the following:

I. Lead Teen Esteem Program Speaker

a. Engage high school, middle school and elementary school students in important conversations about the growing pains associated with growing up.

b. Listen, validate and encourage the voices of kids and teens.

c. Equip and empower students to navigate high-risk choices they will encounter on the road to adulthood.

II. Recruit and Train New Speakers

a. Consistently seek new speakers to be champions for Teen Esteem’s mission.

b. Assist Director of Speakers with TE’s internship program via outreach to local community colleges and universities and participation in job/internship fairs.

c. Train speakers in accordance with the mission of Teen Esteem ensuring continuity and consistency in curriculum delivery.

d. Nurture and foster camaraderie amongst speaker team.

III. Research & Develop New Curriculum

a. Research and stay current on relevant issues facing our youth.

b. Work alongside Executive Director to update existing curriculum and develop new presentations and assemblies that address the needs and wellbeing of kids and teens (typically a summer project).

IV. Social Media & Program Promotion

a. Gather photos, videos and research for social media channels and promotion of Teen Esteem programs.

b. Develop content, post and disseminate relevant information across multiple social media platforms 3-4 times each week at the direction of the Executive Director’s messaging priorities.

c. Monitor and provide reports on social media analytics quarterly.

d. Assist in creation of PowerPoint slide decks, Canva flyers and marketing projects.

V. Team Player

a. Understanding that working at a nonprofit requires supporting one another as a team; including participation in and support of fundraising efforts and events.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – minimum requirements

o Bachelor’s degree.

o Public speaking and education experience.

o Experience creating and implementing programs and/or curriculum.

o Working knowledge or ability to learn software platforms such as Microsoft Office, Egnyte, Trello, Outlook, Slack, Google, Canva and Zoom.

o Non-profit experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

o In person work environment.

o Part-time employee status approximately 20+ hours/week during school year and 15+ hours/week during summer break.

o Evenings and weekends will be required on occasion.

o Ability to obtain and maintain a California non-commercial Class driver’s license.

o Must reside in the East Bay Area.

SALARY:

o $22-24/hour based on experience.

o PTO and paid holidays.

Pay: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour
