General Function:
The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing swimming instruction to people of all ages, following the YMCA of the USA Aquatics and Swim Lessons guidelines. Swim Instructors will provide excellent customer service in a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and satisfaction in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Swim Instructors must be energetic and dedicated individuals with great rapport with kids and parents. Provide swimming instruction to students of various ages and ability levels while maintaining constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure a positive learning environment.
Qualifications:
1. At least 15 years old.
2. Committed to the mission and goals of the YMCA.
3. Obtain YMCA Swim Instructor Certification.
4. Ability to obtain certification in Basic Life Support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid.
5. Child abuse/mandate reporter online training completed prior to working.
6. Full working knowledge of the facility’s safety and emergency procedures.
7. Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
8. Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and tread water (Stage 5 level swimming skill).
General Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and procedures for the pool and whirlpool.
2. Understand the YMCA Swim Lessons program, including swimming levels and skills taught for each level.
3. Evaluate students and recommend placement in the correct skill level.
4. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and completes related reports as required.
5. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
6. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
7. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
8. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
9. Attends mandatory in-service trainings.

2. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting to 50 pounds.

5. Work in a warm, humid environment (usually 80-90 degrees) for the length of the practice or meet.
Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will:
· Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
· Attend required abuse risk management trainings.
· Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
· Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Pay: $13.00 – $15.00 per hour
