– Foundation and Government Relations Internship
The Whitney’s summer internship program is a full-time, paid, nine-week session primarily for undergraduate students. The program includes training, direct work experience,professional development, and a weekly speaker series. The 2025 Summer internship will be hybrid, meaning interns will work onsite at least three days per week. The program will begin on Monday, June 2, and end on Friday, August
1. Participants must be available Monday through Friday for nine consecutive weeks, five days per week.

Expected Projects & Assignments
Help prepare proposals and reports for grants supporting the Museum’s upcoming exhibitions andeducationprogram
Help conduct foundation prospect research
Draft thank you and acknowledgement letters
Assist with filing records and gifts as necessary
Skills & Qualifications
Strong writing skills
Research skills
Knowledge ofmodernand contemporary art
Attention to detail
Familiarity with the organization and operations of an art museum
Undergraduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
Previous museum experience is not required

How to conduct and document prospect research
How to draft grant proposals and reports
How to use Raiser’s edge to search for information and process gifts
Outcomes
Understanding of fundraising team’s day-to-day tasks and long-term strategy
Develop awareness of the current landscape of arts philanthropy and how to write effectively about museum projects for foundation and government funders
Compensation
Interns will be paid a stipend of $6,500 for full participation. Generous support for Hearst Summer Interns is provided by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
