The Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMSNY)is the nonprofit consortium of the medical schools in New York State, working in partnership with our membership to advance healthcare through programs, collaboration and advocacy. AMSNY has long been committed to supporting students entering and during medical school, investing in the biomedical research enterprise and supporting clinical care at our academic medical centers.Â

AMSNY’s partner organization, the New York State Academic Dental Centers (NYSADC) is the consortium of the dental schools in New York State. NYSADC supports programs and policies that advance dental education and expand access to oral healthcare.Â

Together, AMSNY and NYSADC are the voice of medical and dental education in New York State. Our work has resulted in significant growth of programs that support and advance medical students, major New York State investments in biomedical research and the launch of new initiatives to improve access to oral healthcare for people with special needs.Â

POSITION DESCRIPTIONÂ
The Health Policy Intern is responsible for supporting the AMSNY government relations and program teams. The Health Policy intern contributes to ongoing and special projects, conducts relevant research and completes reports and analyses. Candidates for this position must display a professional work ethic, demonstrate a strong interest in local, state and federal health policy, demonstrate an ability to manage multiple and varied projects, prioritize work products, have clear and concise communication skills (particularly written communication) and strong interpersonal skills. Â

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Â
Identifying and tracking legislation relevant to medical and dental education in New York State.Â
Researching and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of issues related to education and research.Â
Developing position papers to support AMSNY’s efforts, including researching and interpreting issues, writing narrative and conveying quantitative analysis for general audiences.Â
Assisting AMSNY staff to coordinate advocacy in Albany, NY and Washington, DC.Â
Working with AMSNY staff on existing and future programs and grants.Â
Researching and writing grant proposalsÂ

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSÂ
Bachelor’s degree is required, plus 1-2 years of related experience and/or pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, or a related field.Â
Demonstrates an ability to interact professionally with people of all backgrounds within academic institutions and government.Â
Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Â
Demonstrates ability to work independently and in teams.Â
