National network serves over 140,000 girls through 76 affiliates.
Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC) is the local affiliate serving over 3,000 girls annually in Tarrant County.
Program Description
Girls Inc. Eureka is a free five-year STEM based program that builds girls’ confidence and skills through hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). During the program, girls participate in a variety of exciting and compelling activities that explore the cutting-edge world of STEM through hands-on experiences in a college campus environment.
The STEM/Eureka Program Coordinator position will expose girls to various career opportunities that are available in the field through STEM-based curriculum. This role will give participants a chance to experience the depth of Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This position is roughly 60% program administration and planning, 20% individual student support and 20% administrative.
Position Summary
The STEM/Eureka Program Coordinator is responsible for preparing and implementing programming and activities (including behavioral and mental health, wellness, STEM, media literacy, economic literacy and college and career planning), facilitating sessions during Eureka, the school day and after school at one or more schools. Each facilitator is responsible for serving 100 girls or more per year. This position is the face of GITC at Eureka, and represents GITC at schools, community events, and STEM outreach.
This position works 40-45 hours per week, and their schedule will mainly be between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. The schedule is Monday–Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, including some Saturdays.
Program Management/Administration
- Coordinate and supervise the Eureka programming.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a robust Eureka school year program, including Spring Break and Summer camps, a minimum of 2–4 times per month.
- Recruit, interview, and orient Eureka participants. Retain current scholars by building solid relationships with participants and families. Keep each Eureka grade cohort (5 cohorts from 8th – 12th grade) a minimum of 20 girls yearly.
- Work in collaboration with AVP to onboard, train, and supervise the Eureka program staff, entry-level opportunity roles, and volunteers.
- Update and/or revise existing Eureka curricula and develop new curricula as needed and/or requested.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local universities, youth agencies, and middle schools.
- Evaluate all programming; complete program surveys, maintain accurate program data; complete required reports using Excel, Group Me, Compass 360, etc.
- Work to meet program goals, including participation, recruitment, and retention of scholars. The goal is a minimum of 20 girls per cohort/year.
- Facilitate agency-approved STEM programming (Eureka, STEM Saturdays, STEM outreach) to Elementary – High School girls.
- Explore students’ changing interests and developmental needs to stay informed of changes.
- Utilize agency resources to develop coordinated, effective programs.
- Attend campus-sponsored events and meetings, outreach events, and staff meetings as requested by the supervisor.
- Meet periodically with parents to explain programs and keep them updated on students’ progress, and encourage family involvement.
- Stimulate interest and enthusiasm within the community for the program; explain agency programs to interested individuals and groups, and recruit and retain girls in the program.
