Job Overview

Future Stars, Inc. (FSI) is a nonprofit in the Phoenix Metro area that delivers hands-on STEM education workshops to elementary and middle school students throughout the school year. We are hiring a full-time STEM/Coding Instructor who loves working with children and is excited to teach them coding, engineering, and other STEM activities.

This is a hands-on teaching role. You will travel to program sites across the Valley, set up your own classroom space, and lead high-energy groups of students through project-based lessons. Your schedule will depend on your availability and flexibility, and you must provide your own transportation.

Teachers, retired teachers, after-school professionals, and college students majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, Game Design, or Education are great candidates.

What You Will Do

  • Teach hands-on STEM and coding classes to elementary and middle school students at after-school and weekend program sites.
  • Plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and evaluate age-appropriate program activities, adapting lessons to the needs and interests of the youth you serve.
  • Create and develop hands-on STEM activities that keep students engaged.
  • Transport, set up, and pack up class supplies and equipment at each site.
  • Supervise students at all times and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
  • Communicate daily with Future Stars, Inc. by phone and email, and complete program documentation using spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email, and database software.
  • Represent the mission of Future Stars, Inc. professionally with students, families, and school partners.

Schedule

Irregular schedule based on program locations. You must be available to teach after school at least five days a week, or on weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $42,000 per year
  • Full-time, W2 position; this position is not benefits-eligible

Training

Instructors receive training from Future Stars, Inc. about the program and about each of the classes they will teach.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle that can transport class supplies and equipment in stackable containers.
  • Willingness to drive to each class site.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.; instructors typically transport two to three stackable containers to each class.
  • Strong comfort with technology and computers.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Self-confidence, energy, creativity, and enough presence to manage a class of high-energy elementary age students.
  • Ability to think on your feet, work independently, and act as a self-starter.
  • Reliable internet access and a cell phone.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card, or successful completion of a background check.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Reliable transportation

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree, or actively pursuing a degree, in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Education)
  • Previous experience working in a classroom or after-school setting
  • CPR, First Aid, and/or AED certification

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Comfortable using computers and basic office software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Experience teaching or training others in technology, digital literacy, or STEM programming
  • Interest in STEM fields and a commitment to the mission-driven work of Future Stars, Inc.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate program activities
