The Staff Accountant is a newly created position for a confidential company in the Business Office supporting the CFOO and Controller in maintaining financial records by tracking and recording transactions, updating the general ledger, reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Essential Functions:
GENERAL LEDGER
Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and other related accounting functions
Provide support with annual budget maintenance into Blackbaud, checking accuracy and assisting the Controller with identifying and analyzing variances
Coordinate with the Development office to ensure all gifts and pledges are accurately accounted for (restricted/unrestricted assets, endowment fund etc.)
ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE MANAGEMENT (STUDENT BILLING)
Support Controller with new student account setup in Blackbaud Tuition Management as well as maintenance of existing student accounts
Work with parents to ensure registration in Blackbaud Tuition Management
Prepare month end aging report for CFOO and Controller
Monitor all outstanding accounts receivable and report to the CFOO and Controller monthly or as often as needed
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE MANAGEMENT
Review and/or enter invoices, research payment issues, prepare and process checks
PAYROLL
Support the payroll process
AUDIT
Assist Controller in preparation of schedules and work papers for the annual audit, taking instructions from the Controller, and the CFOO
Assist in maintaining permanent files for all audit schedules
GENERAL
Provide continuity in the accounting department by learning job functions and filling in where needed
Develop and maintain professional skills through reading and professional development
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited school/university.
CPA or CPA track preferred.
Understanding of GAAP with knowledge of non-profit accounting a plus.
At least 3 years of proven relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit/ school setting.
Outstanding computer and technical skills, including Excel, Microsoft Word and one major accounting system preferably Blackbaud is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills including good judgment, and ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse community while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete multiple tasks on time with competing priorities and deadlines. Solutions oriented, efficient and resourceful, able to work independently. Outstanding attention to detail required with a critical eye to spot errors/inefficiencies.
