Spanish and Portuguese Programs provide ongoing telephone support for isolated clients in the GTA from the Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities. Our regular calls offer safety check-ins, medication reminders, and social calls. We focus on providing clients with emotional support, companionship, and a sense of community. Our Outbound programs reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, teach positive coping skills, offer referrals to community services, and ensure safety.

Our Inbound line supports callers from 10 am to 10 pm.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

The objectives of the Community Animator position are to:
1) conduct in-person and virtual outreach to the Spanish, Portuguese, and DCGT programs within the DCGT catchment areas (Toronto, Peel, CW LHIN);
2) research community connections and outreach opportunities to promote the organization’s needs and programs;
3) develop outreach content such as workshops, presentations, or social media content.

REPORTS TO

Supervisors or Managers of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Community Outreach and Event Representation

Represent DCGT at community outreach events and public engagements.

Staff information booths and engage with attendees to promote programs and services.

Network with other organizations to foster partnerships.

Coordinate with event organizers regarding logistics and participation.

2. Delivery of Mental Health Workshops

Facilitate one-hour workshops focused on mental health and well-being, primarily in-person.

Provide information and referral details to participants.

Assist in developing new workshop topics based on community needs.

3. Community Canvassing and Engagement

Identify high-needs neighborhoods for outreach.

Distribute informational materials and engage community members.

Follow up to support ongoing engagement and service connection.

4. Culturally Relevant Social Media Contributions

Suggest culturally significant events for recognition on social media.

Propose ideas for translated and culturally tailored content, subject to review.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role involves regular travel within the GTA, in-person community engagement, extended walking and standing, occasional lifting (up to 15 lbs), and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Experience in presentations, workshops, or group facilitation.

Passion for working with newcomers and immigrants.

Knowledge of DCGT programs is an asset.

Ability to exercise sound judgment.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.

Proficiency with MS Office and Canva.

Excellent written and verbal skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese.

Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.

Strong interpersonal skills for engaging diverse cultural backgrounds.

Effective time management and adaptability.

Comfort with public transportation or driving; access to a vehicle is an asset.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
