Gotham Park is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2021 to create a vibrant, inclusive, hyper-urban public space at the Manhattan landing of the Brooklyn Bridge. In its first four years, Gotham Park has reopened nearly four acres—including the return of the beloved Brooklyn Banks—while activating the space with free public programming.

Predominantly funded by private donations, Gotham Park maintains and beautifies this newly reopened public space while partnering with NYC agencies to improve and expand it for the community. Through thoughtful programming, partnerships, and community engagement, Gotham Park works to ensure this unique public space remains accessible, welcoming, and vibrant for generations to come.

Position Summary

The Social Media & Digital Content Coordinator supports Gotham Park’s day-to-day social media presence and digital storytelling. Working under the direction of the Marketing team, this role will create and publish engaging content that gives audiences a complete picture of Gotham Park, including our programs and events, staff, community members, partnerships, planning, operations, environmental work, and the behind-the-scenes efforts that bring the park to life.

This is a hands-on, creative role primarily focused on social media content creation, including capturing photos and videos, developing posts, promoting programs and events, engaging with online audiences, and helping Gotham Park grow its presence across platforms. The goal is to tell a consistent and balanced story about who we are, what we do, and why our work matters.

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, comfortable working onsite, and excited to tell authentic, people-centered stories about Gotham Park’s public space and community.

Key ResponsibilitiesSocial Media and Content Creation

  • Oversee Gotham Park’s day-to-day presence across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other approved platforms.
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging posts, Reels, Stories, short-form videos, and other platform-specific content.
  • Capture photos, videos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content that reflect Gotham Park’s programs, events, staff, operations, partnerships, community, and ongoing work.
  • Maintain a social media content calendar and coordinate content needs with staff around programs, projects, announcements, and organizational priorities.
  • Ensure content reflects Gotham Park’s mission, voice, visual identity, and brand standards.

Digital Storytelling and Engagement

  • Develop creative, people-centered content highlighting Gotham Park’s programs, staff, volunteers, youth, partners, community members, operations, environmental work, public-space improvements, and impact.
  • Propose recurring content series, campaigns, trends, and collaborations that help grow Gotham Park’s audience.
  • Promote events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising initiatives, partnerships, and organizational milestones.
  • Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and tags, responding or escalating them as appropriate.
  • Engage with community organizations, public agencies, partners, and relevant local accounts online.

Planning and Organizational Support

  • Track basic social media performance, including reach, views, engagement, and audience growth, and share recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing Team and staff across the organization to develop and maintain a social media content calendar.
  • Maintain organized photo, video, content, approval, and digital asset files.
  • Support live social media coverage during selected events and announcements.
  • Provide occasional support for related digital content and marketing projects, such as website updates, flyers, email graphics, or promotional materials, as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in social media, digital marketing, content creation, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience creating social media content, including short-form video, graphics, captions, and campaigns.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and visual-content skills.
  • Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Indesign, or similar tools.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Nonprofit, community-based, cultural, or public-space experience preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages spoken within NYC communities is preferred.

Compensation And Benefits

This is a temporary, part-time position with an initial three-month term and the potential for extension based on performance, project needs, and the organization’s needs.

The position is expected to require approximately 20 to 30 hours per week. Additional hours may be available with prior approval. The role will include a combination of remote work and onsite work at Gotham Park in Lower Manhattan, with the schedule determined based on Gotham Park’s programming, events, and organizational needs.

The starting hourly rate is $25 to $30, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and education. The coordinator will report to the Marketing team. The coordinator will also work closely with Gotham Park staff across programs, events, development, and operations.

Physical Requirements

This position requires familiarity and comfort with Gotham Park’s local urban environment and the ability to travel to and within the service area around the Brooklyn Bridge in Lower Manhattan and surrounding neighborhood
