Position: SLCC Student, Work Study, Specialist I, Development Student Ambassador
Development and philanthropic work are critical to SLCC, higher education, and many other fields. SLCC’s enriching Development Student Ambassador Program allows students from diverse fields and backgrounds to learn about these fields through collaboration with the SLCC Development Office. This unique experience offers an insider’s look into the complexities of higher education by working alongside Development Officers in corporate and foundation relations, development, planned giving, donor relations, scholarships, advancement services, and stewardship.
Students gain practical knowledge and skills that enrich their social and academic experiences while honing leadership skills and building a professional network. Competitive applicants should be willing to engage with students, staff, and donors. They must have excellent communication skills, be adaptable to various tasks, and possess a genuine excitement about SLCC’s mission.
Students hired as Student Ambassadors will receive a Scholarship to cover tuition, fees, and books up to $2,500 per semester in addition to their pay.
Essential Responsibilities and
Duties
Assist in the planning, coordinating, promoting, and supporting events and programs hosted by the Development office.
Perform clerical functions such as data entry, case management, spreadsheets, and other tasks as assigned.
Assist in outreach and follow-up of scholarship recipients.
Complete delegated tasks by Development officers to meet various donor/staff needs.
Assist Administrative assistant with other duties as assigned.
Event support:
Annual Scholarship Luncheon, board meetings, Giving Day activities, and assisting the Center of Latin American Studies events.
Other duties include administrative tasks and allowing SLCC students to engage in and help plan special events and programming. Will work on weekend events and with international consulate staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Current Salt Lake Community College Student
Registered for 9.0 credit for Fall and Spring semesters
Registered for 6.0 credit hours for the summer semester
Maintain 15-20 hours per week work schedule
Fluent in Spanish

Professionalism
Student Ambassadors will be expected to take the initiative and create unique and effective ways to involve students in the Development Office’s activities. They must also work well with diverse populations, including student organizations and faculty, and be highly organized. Successful candidates must possess strong social and customer service skills and cultural competencies.
Communication
Students in this position will be the liaison between SLCC students and the Development Office for events and activities. The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with diverse individuals of varying abilities, cultures, ages, and ethnic backgrounds is required. Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus. Student Ambassadors will be provided the tools to effectively interact with SLCC supporters in person, over the phone, and online.
Student Ambassadors will work closely with Development Officers to identify opportunities where students can be involved.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good communication skills and experience working with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
