POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Shift Supervisor

PAY GRADE: 204

PAY RANGE: $19.83 – $23.79

OUTCOMES

The Shift Supervisor oversees facility security (including loss prevention), facility safety, resident movement control and monitoring, recording and record keeping. The Shift Supervisor supervises the performance of the Correctional Monitors (CMs) for their assigned shift. The Shift Supervisor also supervises residents’ work details when custodial or housekeeping staff is not available. Oversees the fire safety equipment checks, and fire drills conducted on their assigned shift. Support will be provided to the Security Services Supervisor and leadership to ensure that program goals are effectively achieved.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Supervision

Provides initial on-the-job trainings for Correctional Monitors.
Oversee all aspects of Correctional Monitors’ duties including completion of tasks and uniformity in procedural administration. Providing direction and leadership to Correctional Monitors to ensure compliance with program guidelines and procedures.
Ensures that all areas are properly staffed by scheduling Correctional Monitors, and that all required records are properly prepared and filed/routed. Facilitate shift coverage for planned or unplanned absences.
Facilitates maximum communication amongst all staff members to ensure full communication of all relevant information from shift to shift and appropriate reporting of all exceptional incidents.
Ensure proper management including documentation of prescribed medication for residents.
A log record is kept for all dispensed medication.
Review medication dispensing records & verify counts weekly.
Medications are properly & safely secured
Verify daily that staff are properly logging, maintaining, and distributing medication considered “Crucial medications” for residents.
Medication control procedures are reviewed weekly and audited quarterly.
Meets weekly with the other Security Services Supervisor and other Shift Supervisors to discuss management, training and scheduling of staff.
Participate in hiring decisions, evaluate staff performance, and make recommendations to the Security Services Supervisor as needed.
When required, manages residents in their work details.
Demonstrate flexibility and availability to staff and supervisors as needed to address program issues to include problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention.

Operations

Handle emergencies and unusual incident reporting to include verbal instructions and follow-up, written reports, and interface with emergency providers (i.e., police, fire, disaster). Initiating appropriate reporting to program leadership of emergencies and unusual incidents. Providing support and assistance to Correctional Monitors in handling emergencies and unusual incident reports.
Oversees the security of the facility. Ensures the uninterrupted operations of facility systems, including fire prevention, key control, vehicle management and resident records. Assumes control of the facility during emergency evacuations and acts as liaison between the program and emergency services personnel.
Oversee the safety and orderliness of the facility. Conducts and evaluates emergency drills and training sessions as needed.
Continuously facilitates communication with supervisory staff regarding resident activity and with custodial staff regarding facility conditions.
Works at least one weekend per month on their assigned shift. On this weekend, act as the off-duty security staff duty officer.

Residents

Provide entry/exit oversight of residents to include intake and discharge activities.
Monitor daily resident activities as it pertains to lodging, exit and entry of facility, building and grounds, and community access.
Oversee and/or perform safety checks of residents’ baggage and/or rooms as necessary to prevent the concealment and storage of alcohol, drugs, weapons, and/or hazardous materials (i.e., combustible/fire agents, smoking materials or other) as necessary or upon request by supervisors.
Direct guests to address any/all social service issues to their assigned Case Manager. This includes issues pertaining to family, self, mental health/emotional, financial, substance abuse, parenting, and/or physical health).
Provide assistance with drug testing as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of residents’ information (verbal/written).

Other

Performs all other duties, including all Correctional Monitor tasks, as needed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Security Services Supervisor.

This position supervises the Correctional Monitors on their assigned shift.

In contacts related to this position’s duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on the basis of standards established by facility program directives. Evaluations will consider the timeliness, effectiveness, and completeness of tasks performed and the results of internal and external audits, when applicable. Fact-based opinions of subordinates, residents, and community contacts may be considered.

A performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Supervisory experience in a residential and/or correctional facility.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
This individual will keep the Security Services Supervisor informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do light physical work.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
The work environment for this position is a residential environment with a low to moderate noise level.
