WHAT

WILL I BE DOING?

CHI is seeking a full-time Shelter Manager for our Middle Island location. You will oversee all aspects of shelter operations, ensuring that participants receive services promoting independence, skills for housing stability, and that living units are well-maintained. Your responsibilities include:

Enforcing program policies and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Assisting clients in developing and evaluating their Independent Living Plans (ILPs).

Providing information, referrals, counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy.

Developing a referral network and collaborating with external agencies to meet client needs.

Supporting clients with direct services like budgeting, resume building, and daily living skills.

Conducting face-to-face client meetings twice weekly.

Inspecting living spaces regularly to ensure compliance and assist with maintenance of housing.

Monitoring and documenting resource use and damages.

Assessing physical plant needs and communicating with management.

Supervising Resident Support Specialists, including hiring, scheduling, and performance management.

Conducting regular team meetings and performance reviews.

Ensuring 24/7 site coverage through staff scheduling and incident intervention.

Submitting timely reports and documentation as required by funders and agency standards.

Salary: $64,350 annually. Exempt.

Work schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.

– 4 p.m., with on-call responsibilities.

WHAT DO I NEED?

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field;
Master’s in Social Work preferred. Extensive experience may substitute for education.

Experience:

Minimum two years in homelessness or housing services; management experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:
Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Skills:
Excellent communication, proficiency in English, bilingual in Spanish a plus, basic computer skills, budgeting ability, physical ability to tour properties, and strong reasoning skills.

Other:
Ability to relate to underserved populations, work independently and as part of a team, stay organized, handle pressure, and meet deadlines.
