Under the leadership and direction of the Director of Mission Advancement, the Senior Manager of Marketing and Events will oversee our marketing initiatives, execute development strategies, and facilitate event coordination at Goodwill of the Finger Lakes (GFL). This pivotal role will not only amplify our community presence but also enhance our social enterprises. The ideal candidate will leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate return on investment of the current marketing strategies and pinpoint key market trends and provide strategic insights to the goals and objectives of Mission Advancement. Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and experience working with diverse communities are essential. A strong understanding of marketing, communications and event planning, with expertise in vendor negotiations and problem-solving, is required.
Additionally, the Senior Director will stay informed about the latest Retail industry trends and technologies. This role not only upholds the mission and values of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes but also actively contributes to the overarching organizations success and department goals and objectives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing & Communications – 40%
Implement an effective communication Mission Advancement communication strategy execution to keep donors, partners, thrifters, and employees informed about marketing initiatives and events. Ability to evaluate marketing efforts to achieve maximum return on investment
Oversee the planning and execution of marketing campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with budgetary constraints
Establish key metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and events; facilitate post-campaign evaluations to gather insights into future improvements.
Lead, oversee and work in tandem with departments to align marketing strategies with overall business objectives
Build and maintain a strong brand identity through innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with target audiences
Design marketing materials, skilled in recognizing changing landscape, and multichannel segmented marketing
Manage paid advertising campaigns to ensure strategic alignment
Utilize digital marketing strategies, including social media, email marketing, and SEO, to increase brand awareness and engagement
Oversee the creation of engaging content for various platforms, including blogs, newsletters, and promotional materials, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding
Events & Collaboration – 30%
Design and execute a diverse range of events, to include community engagement/outreach, ensuring high quality experiences for participants. Cultivate relationships with stakeholders to enhance collaboration and increase visibility for events and marketing campaigns.
Plan and execute annual gala and other recurring events that are mission-focused, aligned with the brand, and meets fundraising goals and objectives
2.1.1 Supports event-related public relations efforts including press releases, media relations, and crisis communication, to ensure a positive public image.
2.1.2 Create compelling narratives that communicate the organization’s mission and values, enhancing emotional connections with target audiences
2.1.3 Collaborate with internal departments to ensure consistency in messaging for all communications, including employee focused communications
2.1.4. Coordinate and manage volunteers to assist with execution of events
2.2 Develop and foster relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and influencers to enhance the organization’s presence and reputation in the community.
2.2.1 Identify and cultivate partnerships with local businesses and organizations to support event initiatives and marketing efforts
2.2.2 Develop and manage sponsorship programs for events, including identifying potential sponsors, creating proposals, and negotiating contracts
2.2.3 Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and community gatherings to network and promote the organization’s mission and initiatives.
Development Strategy Support – 25%
Develop and implement a holistic marketing and events execution strategy aligned with Mission Advancement’s strategic plan and organizational goals and objectives. This includes, but is not limited to:
Appeal letters, including copywriting and design
Impact of giving ensuring appropriate tracking and documentation is recorded and manage planned giving.
Oversee the design of the Mission Advancement newsletter
Oversee and manage the United Way Campaign from inception to execution. Partner with People Resources to ensure donations are appropriately allocated.
Develop and co-manage Donor acknowledgement events and societies.
Apply knowledge of development, fundraising, sales approach to solicitations to stay abreast of current Advancement trends to meet and/or exceed annual giving goals.
Other duties assigned – 5%
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 7+ years professional experience in Marketing, Advancement/Development, and event management with a proven track record of successful campaign execution and event planning.
Graduate degree preferred in associated field with professional experience in a non-profit, for profit, higher education industry.
Competencies needed to be successful in this job include leadership skills, communication skills, technical proficiency, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, effective emotional intelligence, strategic and critical thinking and application, project management methodologies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Able to read and write reports, compile data as needed. Communicates effectively with others and provides essential customer service duties either verbally or via computer e-mail.
REASONING ABILITY:
Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is usually working in a combination of a warehouse and retail store environment. At times this employee may be exposed to the outside environment. The noise in this environment will be moderate to loud. Is expected to periodically travel within Goodwill of the Finger Lakes territory. Occasional travel to other states or Goodwill territories as well.
AVAILABILITY:
Must have open/flexible availability and be willing to work evenings & weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing this job’s duties, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and work extensively with computers. The employee will be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 – 20 pounds. The employee needs to have reasonable mobility.
