Job Summary

Reporting to Executive Manager, Charities (Sports, Culture and Institute of Philanthropy), the job holder supports the end-to-end business development in

Mainland China of a strategic knowledge and convening platform on philanthropy for the Charities Trust (Institute of Philanthropy (“IoP”)), from concept development, operating model and business case, to making grant recommendations to the Board and implementation.

Major Tasks

Manage the design, planning and implementation of the establishment of IoP’s Mainland office, including strategy development, operating model set-up, setting up representative office, build a small team stationed in the Mainland, budget planning and financial management, etc. Make informed recommendation to Management on IoP’s end-to-end development, from concept development, operating model and business case, to prepare board papers for grant approval and on-going management

Drive research and analysis of philanthropy landscape and issues relevant to philanthropy for the design and development of IoP

Identify strategic partners and conduct due diligence and assessment, and develop strategic partnerships with world-class institutions, particularly those in the Mainland, to drive knowledge consolidation, generation and dissemination on philanthropic practices and issues

Cultivate external stakeholder relationships with foundations, academic institutions, governments, nonprofit organisations, issue expert networks etc., locally, Mainland and globally

Organise events, multi-disciplinary forums and programmes to convene thought leaders, scholars, practitioners, and members of the public for knowledge sharing and social change ideas development related to philanthropy

Curate a library of publications of regional or global value on non-profit and philanthropic topics, including articles, case studies, journals, regular publications, etc.

Monitor the progress of anticipated output and outcome, budget spending, and evaluation and impact assessment. Prepare regular progress reports and presentations to Management

Develop and implement governance and controls to ensure effective execution and operations of IoP, and provide secretarial support for any related committees and working groups

Collaborate and coordinate with internal stakeholders, including internal teams to consolidate institutional knowledge for targeted, impactful dissemination, and other Club departments to ensure alignment and support to Club objectives

Education

A Bachelor’s degree with over 10 years of relevant experience, preferably with work experience in leading philanthropic organisations or world-class academic institutions in relevant fields in the Mainland

Qualifications

Experience

Good knowledge of philanthropic topics and practices, and network and experience in the Mainland and/or global philanthropic sector strongly preferred

Good knowledge of the legal framework and regulation on overseas NGOs operating in the Mainland

Business development competence

Project management skills

Events organisation and management experience

Strong analytical abilities and ability to apply strategic frameworks and problem solving approaches

Required to station in the Mainland, with regular travels to Hong Kong and internationally
